Thank you for your interest in The Bali Curator's products, made in collaboration with talented artisans from different islands in Indonesia.

Notebooks
Eco-printed in Kalimantan
The covers of these notebooks are eco-printed by a community on the Indonesian island Kalimantan. Specifically, the members of this community are leprosy survivors, and unfortunately they face a lot of social discrimination in both their daily lives and in their work. Our partner Sepatokimin has provided eco-print training to the community, as a potential extra source of income, and this has been the start of the community brand, Ruang Terampil. Strongly believing in the power of collaboration, we have used these eco-printed fabrics to create notebooks. The purple versions are made with teak leaves, whereas the yellow versions are made with lanang leaves.

Organic Cotton T-shirts
Screenprinted with natural ink in Bali
Suksma means thanks in the Balinese language. Our t-shirts are all made of 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. The prints are manually screenprinted with natural ink by Tribhumi, a natural ink screenprint studio in Denpasar, Bali. The black ink is made of ketapang leaves. The white t-shirts are undyed, whereas the colored t-shirts are dyed with natural dyes. The blue color is made with leaves from the indigofera tinctoria plant.
As the products are dyed and printed with natural dyes and inks, some fading over time is normal. We recommend washing with cool water and ph neutral detergent. And please avoid drying in direct sunlight. It is best to not store in folded position to avoid uneven fading of the color along the creases.

Sumbanese Stone Statues
Designed and Carved by Bu Yana and her family
Bu Yana was born and raised in Sumba, an Indonesian island about 900km east from Bali, but she and her family have lived in Bali since 2001. With their work the artisans aim to present Sumbanese culture and heritage to the world, while inspiring young generations to keep the Sumbanese traditions alive. Traditionally wooden and stone statues are used a lot in Sumbanese life and architecture. The statues represent spirits that are prayed to in order to ensure protection of the house, fertility, smooth harvest, health, etc, etc. The statues created by the family in Bali are small versions based on the original designs that are used in Sumba, but meant for home/villa decoration purposes. Therefore, the designs are not always exact copies of the statues in Sumba, but they are adjusted accordingly.

About The Bali Curator
The Bali Curator was founded by Pria Angga Saputra and Cecile Schimmel
The Bali Curator is an ethical sourcing and production management agent, assisting international brands with their productions in Bali. Our mission is to bring more transparency into the manufacturing industry in Bali, and that way empower artisans that are involved in the supply chain. Our founders have seen first hand the great potential of artisanal craft(wo)manship in Bali and other islands in Indonesia, and we also have been blessed to meet and work with many talented designers and entrepreneurs, willing to have their products made in Bali. We believe these two parties should lift each other up in their collaborations to create unique, high-quality products.
